Sensazioni by Diego Fazi

This incredible portrait may look like a black and white photograph, but it is in fact a photorealistic pencil drawing. Created by 22 year old Diego Fazi, the self taught Italian artist won an award for Best New Artist in 2011 and it’s not hard to see why. The level of dedication to complete such a detailed work of art is astonishing, and more of his work can be found in the links below.

Ania, a nineteen year old art student at Sydney College of Art, was born and spent her childhood in Russia. Through symbols, references and allusions, her historical background constantly feeds into her art, which becomes a transmutation of personal and cultural contexts. Influences include Soviet film, Russian literature, family photographs and memories.

Before SCA, Ania was mainly a self taught artist. In studying visual art, she continuously explores different mediums and techniques, aiming to develop and solidify her own original style. Often described as whimsy, strange and quirky, Ania’s practice encompasses watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings, coloured pencil and ink drawings, digital illustrations, and more recently, screenprints, etchings and photographs. Ania’s work is largely preoccupied with experimentation in colour, and the emotional potential present within highly saturated, deep and vivid colours. Simultaneously, Ania is concerned with representing something peculiar, bizarre and unconventional, yet equally captivating and perhaps enigmatic.

Ania began exhibiting when her HSC visual arts body of work was selected for Art Express 2010, and was subsequently shown in two galleries. Ania was also part of a group show, and had her first solo exhibition this year. Two years in a row, 2011 and 2012, Ania’s art has been published in ARNA, The Sydney Arts Student Society Creative Journal. Previously being commissioned for large scale wall mural painting, Ania received second place in Leichhardt Council’s Wall2Wall Mural Competition 2012, with her painting at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre.
